Livestock barns in Minapin village in North Pakistan. This village is the setting off point for the base camp and ascent trails of the 7788m Mount Rakaposhi . As such it attracts mountaineers from around the globe. John hiked to base camp while I went up to a high altitude meadow to get views of the summit and the giant Minapin Glacier. At 2600 meters Minapin village has extreme winters. The animals winter in the stone barns, which keep off wolves and snow leopards. The ladder is to the roof, where dried grasses collected over the year are stored for winter food for the livestock

Beautiful village scene. I think back side of the house, it use to let the cattle out, and labourers in for working. That was the old treaition, be it Pakistan or India!!

A tourist question Diana: How is the political climate and security for tourists like me travelling in off beaten tracks and what about the cost of living nowadays ?

Acceptable and modest clean room's price ? Food ? Public transportation ?

Up north is the area to go in the mountains. Very safe there. Very cheap living…$20-40 for clean room with breakfast and WiFi. Food is cheap. Public Transport to remoter places can be problematic, but it is quite cheap to share taxi or to hire a driver and car. I have a local friend( like a family member to us) who can arrange trips very affordably. That way you get much more meeting locals and seeing amazing places.

Thank you so much Diana for these precious informations. I forgot to ask you about the weather.
It must be kind of cold or cool since this is a mountainous country ?
