When "snail mail" ruled

When "snail mail" ruled
The Forbes Post Office demonstrates that, back in 1881, Post Offices were considered major public buildings. (best viewed large on black). HFF

a fine building indeed for the snail workers ... ;-)
interesting colours and arches ... very eye catching
I think the mail could have been thrown out through
the arches and someone shout ... come and get it ;-)

And they remained so well into the 20th century! Lots of Depression-era Art Deco PO's were built over here in the 30s.

Our local Post Office is kept in business by the Canadians coming across the border, but otherwise the US postal service is in all sorts of financial trouble. Unusual and beautiful architecture here and wonderful photo.

A majestic building George and not too dissimilar to railway stations I have seen in large cities.
People are conspicuous in your excellent photo....by their absence.
Happy Fence Weekend to you!

Wonderful building that appears to be well maintained and I love the period style street lights although not sure about the modern ones.
Great shot George from a super pov.

Snail mail is still good! In US the IRS tells all, "we communicate only by Snail mail" -- very
little chance of forgery and deceit!
