The Old West Bay Railway Station

The Old West Bay Railway Station
West Bay railway station was the terminus of the Bridport Railway in west Dorset, England. The line between West Bay and Bridport closed to passengers in 1930, and operated for goods services only until its final closure in 1962. After many years as the office of a boat yard, in 1995 the station was restored with a short length of track at the platform and has operated as a cafe since then.

A lovely typical rural station is the cafe in the building or the carriage

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Peter Castell club
There is a cafe in the building but I think the carriage is more a night time cocktail bar. It wasn't open when I passed it.

Thank you Doug. It must have been chilly there by the coast....three fires must have kept them warm ;-)

'Sausage and Pear' sounds an interesting concoction to have for lunch, Rosa. This looks like a station straight out of Oh, Doctor Beeching! . Cheers, Joe

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Joe, Son of the Rock club
I thought it sounded rather odd Joe, but apparently they are award winning caterers. I don't remember seeing the series you mention. Not a good name to mention to any railway enthusiast!! Cheers, Rosa.

The station is so well kept. Is this all down to volunteers? I wonder if the line closed just ahead of the Beeching Cuts.

Yes it is Amelia. Apart from the fact that it was finally closed in 1962 I don't know anything more about it. It is probably privately owned, but I'm not sure.

So many of these old stations and trains were just left to rot...................it's good to see that these have been restored and put to good use. It's a super attraction, especially for railway enthusiasts, and there's no shortage of those in this country :-)

I'm going to have to add West Bay to my list...................

Beautifully composed with great depth and detail Rosa. Nice work!
Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Keith Burton club
The station has been a cafe for a long time Keith but I don't remember seeing the carriages before. It's a great position for them as it is close to the main car park, so a lot of footfall.

I think the work in West Bay on the sea defences and prettying up an area near the harbour is due to finish in late July. I did find it very interesting all the same.

Thank you so much for your great comments. Much appreciated.

Hmm, this looks attractive! Sausage and pear sounds an interesting culinary combination;-) Actually, in northern Germany they eat Birn, Bohnen und Speck (pears, green beans and bacon) and it tastes good!

I thought the same Gudrun...a strange combination! Your German combination sounds much nicer :-))
