metalic polaroid - darkflower

metalic polaroid - darkflower
printed off my phone with the Polaroid Lab. So much fun to use.

[I hesitate to post scans of my polaroids because my system isn't as good as Robert Frank's! I got the color fairly close to what it is, but the border is completely wrong. Should be very dark purple. Ah well. It is what it is.]

Günter Klaus, Ronald Stachowiak, Erhard Bernstein, Erika Akire and 27 other people have particularly liked this photo

Thanks. I was inspired by another photographer. No copying, but a similar sense. Always nice to have an inspiration.

I have never seen the album cover before. You are so right about the connection.

But it is really cool that you would mention Depeche Mode right now. My husband wrote the lyrics of an album (The Accidental Falls) with Eyelids, a band from Portland, Oregon with John Moen from the Decemberists in it. When they did the album release concert last March 2020 (just before everything went down), they also played a cover of Depeche Mode's 'Enjoy the Silence'. The audience video of it got around and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame commisioned Eyelids to do a studio version for Depeche Modes' induction into the Hall of Fame!! And the studio version is being released tomorrow, Friday, May 7th, on Bandcamp! musicofeyelids.com

Okay, enough personal promotion. Thanks for you comment!

Enjoy the Silence is basically the title song of the Violator album and the singles of this song have been graphicised by variants of the rose flower photo. So definitely there's a connection and I wish you a lovely time. Enjoy not only the silence, enjoy the music, enjoy the day, enjoy the life.

Thank you. I'm so glad you like it.

I was inspired by another photographers work. Not a copy at all, but the idea of being sure the flowers were backed by dark. The rest is pure raingirl style.

A very unusual and lovely image the light appears to come from within the flowers, did you scan or photograph the polaroid ?
raingirl club has replied to Peter Castell club
Oh I scanned it. Maybe I should try photographing the polaroid. I hadn't thought of that. I'd love people to be able to see the true colors, or at least closer than this.

You are really kind. I'm so glad you like it. I like loose compositions. They are hard for me to do successfully, but it is where my heart lies. I like regular flower photos, very eye appealing, but for my art I prefer this type thing.
peace.

Thanks! I was inspired by a photographer who had total black behind a mass of bright plants. This isn't a copy in any way, but that inspired me to shift my position to get the dark background happening.

Calibrating the scanner?

raingirl club has replied to Bergfex club
Thanks for the idea. But I scan regular prints with my Epson scanner just fine. It's the reflective nature of the border and the polaroid itself that throws things off.

Interesting treatment. Haven't seen or used a polaroid for years but I understand they're back.

oh yes, they are. it's been a process. i've been supporting the remaking of polaroid film for years. the 'impossilbe project' bought the last factory with the machines that produce the packs of film right before it was going to be all taken apart (in the Netherlands). after years of very experimental film they got good enough to approach polaroid and unite with them. i actually miss the more experimental film, but still enjoy the not exactly perfect film they have now.

i didn't use polaroid very much in its heyday. i'm much more into it now - kind of an easy 'film' based photography.

thank you. and yes, the border. i can sometimes get polaroid film with interesting borders that aren't just white. sometimes they work with the photo, sometimes not.
