The "new normal" for Public Transport

The "new normal" for Public Transport
My wife on the train yesterday. There was quite a significant minority of people not wearing masks on the train - they can't all have been exempt and no one seemed to be checking!

Frans Schols, Aschi "Freestone", Gudrun, Berny and 9 other people have particularly liked this photo

It's unbelievable that people get away with not wearing a mask on public transport Keith! They should be fined! Good to see your wife wearing it properly, like Jean says, and it's a lovely portrait of our times.

Hope you both have a good Thursday.

It's the same in shops. I do pity the staff wondering who to challenge or perhaps they are regular customers and the staff already know they are exempt - Who knows!

Same in our area, nobody is checking. People are not able to be self-responsible, so there must be control!

My findings exactly Keith, we had a weekend in London and stayed in a famous brand hotel where face mask policy was not being enforced, two pub restaurants where ID was not requested and a London bus maximum 30 passengers with probably 60 on board with 10% not wearing a face cover and probably 20% not bothering to pay the fare either.

Good to see you are wearing masks!
Judging by the comments here it seems to be the same everywhere, too many people not complying... I mean, what's the use of fines if nobody comes to control. Or, like in our trains, they control and just politely ask people to wear their mask over mouth and nose instead of under their chin...They pull the mask up and once the controller has gone pull it down again.

Thanks for all your kind and interesting comments. I think everyone is getting a little complacent. It's difficult to strike a balance between keeping yourself and others safe whilst still being able to enjoy life as best we can.

Stay safe and well everyone!

Bei uns in Nordrhein-Westfalen kann ein Bußgeld von 150 € verhängt werden. Aber es wird zu wenig kontrolliert.

Same here Wilhelm..........the rules are there and the law has been amended, but it's rarely enforced.

Jean paul

Thank you Jean Paul. I think it's difficult for everyone to get used to the restrictions we currently face (and probably will face for some time to come).

The vast majority are complying with the rules..............I just hope that will be enough!

Thank you for your kind regards which I'll pass on to my wife. I hope you've had a good weekend and are looking forward to the week ahead. Take care!

Your wife is a considerate person, Keith. We have to wear masks on transport now also. We had no cases for over a month. Then with the border open for people to come who are N.Z ers trapped overseas, or with family here, several people escaped lockdown, and more have now been infected. Nothing to compare to Britain and elsewhere of course. Most have been connected to two clusters in Auckland. We have had 3 in our small town. I prefer to wear my mask while shopping. It's far more inconvenient to have the virus!

I'll tell her you said that Eunice.......thank you.

Here in the UK we've been impressed with the way your PM and her Goverment have dealt with the pandemic. I don't suppose you want to swap Jacinda for Boris do you?

Same story here. Sure, it's nicer to not wear a mask, but in the US, it isn't about that. It's "I don't care about you" or "I am a Trump worshiper and he doesn't wear a mask." It's infuriating! I'm just thankful that in this very conservative town, a large majority have finally gotten the message. They wear masks most of the time, most places. Big improvement.

Edit: Your wife has gorgeous blue peepers!

It's all a bit worrying........infection rates are rising again and more local restrictions are being re-imposed. We're keeping a fairly low profile and avoiding places that are busy.

My wife says "thank you". Her eyes really are lovely! Take care and stay safe Diane!

I think wearing a mask is a small price to pay to keep us all much safer. I cannot begin to fathom out why so many ignore the rules

I completely agree Ed. I think some people think they are immune or that their symptoms will not be very serious..............they forget (or don't care) about those they might infect..!!
