Great Aunt Loreas and Reno Sapp
This was my mother's Aunt, and her mother's sister, Loreas, with her first husband Reno Sapp. I'm pretty sure it's a wedding picture. Reno seemed pretty flashy and I think that's probably why Loreas married him. The marriage didn't last and Loreas married again later on.
This was taken in Roswell, New Mexico sometime in the 1930s.

I took several different images of the crescent moon last night, May 11th, 2024, at different focal lengths. Here they are side by side to compare the difference between the sizes.

Aurora Borealis
Last night, May 10th, 2024, there had been some solar flares that were fairly large and this caused the conditions to be right for the Aurora Borealis lights to be seen as far south as my area here in Southern Illinois. These streams of light were constanly moving and shifting and looked pretty amazing.
It's real rare that these lights show this far south like they did.

Red-Spotted Purple Butterfly

This butterfly landed on a tree leaf in my back yard and sat there - almost like it was posing for me. So I obliged and took it's picture.
2017 Total Eclipse Sequence
This was the sequence of the total solar eclipse back in 2017 showing the complete sequence of before, during and after totality. I was there with 3 other people and we enjoyed it together - it was awesome! There were also two young couples who drove all the way from New Hampshire and they stationed themselves close by us. All of us chatted and had a good time during the eclipse. There were a few small clouds that had wandered through prior to the start of the eclipse, but were gone by the time the eclipse reached totality. This one was quite near my home, about 30 minutes away, but not like the one on April 8th, 2024 this past Monday that went right over my house.
Taken on August 21st, 2017, with my Sony Alpha SLT-a77V DSLR.

Another nifty Minolta SLR I picked up earlier this year. I've already used it and it works fine.
Eclipse 2024
The total eclipse of the sun just passed right over my home here in Southern Illinois. I took this picture at 1.05 p.m. CT, Monday, April 8th, 2024.
This is the second total eclipse I've seen in my area and I don't have the words to describe what they're like. It gets real dark and quiet, and the totality of the eclipse really shines up in the sky. It's an awesome experience.
