One of the many camping areas located in the Shawnee National Forest. I was here in 1988 with a big Boy Scout meeting. Several troops from all over Southern Illinois camped and hiked here for the weekend. I remember that it was in October or thereabouts because one night, it got below freezing while we were camping.
This particular picture was taken when we were on a 7-mile hike that the 11 year olds in the troop I was with referred to as "The 7-Mile Death March." What were they complaing about? I had all the cooking utensils, food and my camping stuff in my backpack. All they had to carry was their canteens!
