Roger (Grisly) club has replied to Sonia RoosenWas Walford's Gibbet really a hanging place?
Roger (Grisly) club has replied to Deborah Lundbech clubIndeed, it was Walford was sentenced to hang from this spot for 100 days, I have a link, although it is a little messy it tells the gory story.

Incidently Dead Woman's Ditch is just up the road, but that's another story.
Roger (Grisly) club has replied to Cheryl Kelly (cher12… clubAt any rate, Walford's last view was a beautiful one.
Thank you for the link, Roger - and now I'm off to see if I can find the story of Dead Woman's Ditch!
Roger (Grisly) club has replied to Christian C clubIf I had a reason to acknowledge the Somerset Levels, I'd want something like this as a huge picture hanging in, say, a dining room. Mind you, on the basis that without King Alfred's fight back against the Vikings on very long odds from his refuge here at Athelney,, we'd all be speaking Danish, that would be reason enough!
