RED as RED can be !!

Thanks, Jaap. I couldn't get it as bright as I wanted, though, without losing too much deatil. On the other hand, the building is now painted grey, so this commemorates the bold red.

Window is well placed for the composition. It wouldn't look at all bad as just a black rectangle on a red field, though the shadows and the upper left architectural decorations do add interest.

I'll have to see if I can edit this to get that effect. Thanks for the idea, Bob.

So now the building is painted grey. That says a lot about our times. A good job you made a record of when it was cheerfully red. I wonder nonetheless why people paint brick. To arrest deterioration, perhaps? Anyway, once I'd recovered from the initial shock of how gloriously assertive the whole thing is, I became fascinated by the shadows made by the cables snaking hither and thither from their pole. There is plenty here to contemplate. You made a fine picture.

Thanks, TLC. I think perhaps the main reason to paint brick is it that makes it easier to clean. In Toronto, though, a lot of very fine 19th-century brick was covered up. Then for the last 50 years people have been sandblasting the paint off, Not here, though.

Of course, sometimes you can understand why the brick was painted. The wall below was fascinating. It has since been painted grey and that may have helped preserve it. I wish they'd chosen a brighter colour, though,

Beautifully red. Like TLC above, I am drawn to the shadows, particularly the curve above the window and below the decorative frieze which looks like a tendril stretching towards the light. And the cup (?) in the bottom corner of the window domesticates the whole thing. Delightful.

Thanks, John. I hadn't noticed the mystery item, or maybe I did but thought it unimportant, Thanks for pointing it and its domestic touch out. I really like the shadows, too.

They're still taking care of the brick, Léo. The window has been replaced by a slightly wider one, and the arch of vertical bricks replaced, but in a way that looks thoroughly authentic,

You're welcome, Léo, Even though the grey paint was added before I left Toronto, I never realized the brick had been modified until you mentioned how well-kept the brick was.

Well, that makes a statement. Very striking. What a shame it had to be "greyed over".

I'm afraid greyness is next to godliness in Toronto, Andrew. Or has replaced it.
