St. Peter Mancroft, Norwich
The Church of St. Peter Mancroft (1455) seen from the Forum (2001, Michael Hopkins and Partners).

The big version seems worth a look to me; click the pic, tap it, or type Z.

Fascinating view. At first it looked like a reflection, but it was too regular for multiple panes of glass, so the tower clicked in. And the amount of detail on it helped greatly - ornate stone floating in air. The anchoring silhouettes are interesting as well - the person with arm propping "his" head is great - you caught the moment there.

Thanks, Bob. This shot has helped me understand the building I took it from better. Usually I'm distracted by the exhibits in the lobby. The building is an example of how tp get modern and 15th-cebtury architecture to work together.

Beautiful old tower. I like the overlay of the window grid and the contemplative figure at the café table.

Thanks, Jean. I think a lot of good thinking went into designing the Forum and the little square (Millennium Plain) in front of it. Norwich has several fine public spaces and Millennium Square is one of them.

You've captured the church in wonderful detail. I really like the silhouetted overlaid grid. Very nice indeed John.

Thanks, Keith. Mr. Hopkins and his associates made some very good decisions here, I think.

As always, your images become so much more striking looked at enlarged because one can better appreciate the details, such as the pensive gent sitting alone at a table (smoking?)
And of course, the complex geometry that is a hallmark of your style, along with the juxtaposition of old and new.

Thank you very much, Sarah. Mr. Hopkins and associates provided the opportunity, though. One thing I like about Norwich is that they don't just preserve their fine architecture they make sure it is complemented by the buildings around it.

This had me guessing - was it a reflection? Viewed large I realised it's "looking out". Very effective.

Thanks, George. This use of new architecture to complement old has been part of Norwich planning since they started rebuilding after the Baedeker raids in WWII
