Quite a combo! ESSO (Standard Oil) paid for a lot of my college, which is a good thing since my parents didn't have much money. But back to photography - good dof here, which preserves the textures along with the repeating red and red-orange and the red-to-brown as we move lower left and the brown with the light reddish streaks at the very bottom. And the armchair is a hoot!

Thanks, Bob. I hadn't thought about the repeating colours, so thanks again for pointing that out. The chair is cottage furniture, I think. It's in pretty good shape, too.

Esso is still the trade name in Canada. "Imperial" is for Imperial Oil, which is a Canadian company which Standard Oil bought and whose name Exxon continues to use for its Canadian operation.

Esso is also fondly remembered by older Canadians as the sponsor of Saturday-night hockey on radio and TV. The tradition of picking the three stars of a game comes from a promotion they did long ago for their 3 Star Oil.

I remember them chiefly for their "put a tiger in your tank" commercials which I greatly enjoyed as a child.

A delightfully jumbled scene, John, and your customary wonderful composition!

What? You're not in Heidi's chair group?

Thank you, Diane. My chair photo inventory is a little depleted at the moment, but I can always make an effort to find something for the group.

I know a "garage memorabilia" collector who would love that Esso sign. The chairs have a nice '50s feel.

Gas station signs underwent a big change in the 1960s and 70s, from the old flat signs lit from above to backlit plastic signs. The old signs were better designed, to my eye.
