Wonder Valley Ironage Rd / Dale mining district / politics (#1008)

Wonder Valley Ironage Rd / Dale mining district / politics (#1008)
It looks like nothing here, but there’s more story than one would expect. Ironage road is a gravel road heading further east from Wonder Valley into the old Dale mining district. The only information I could find on the area is provided by someone who leads tours to abandoned mines (first link below), who describes much of the mining as small gold mines that were apparently never particularly successful. Iron Age Mine, though, was apparently an important supplier of iron during WWII and stayed in operation up into the 1960’s. There is purportedly a restarting of iron mining there now (second link).

Oh, politics? Near a small cluster of houses just to my left was a large sign supporting Trump. I’ve been by the piece of property before and it has always looked a little scary, but this time they had signs that you were being videotaped, so no picture of that. Nearby, though, is where I found a different cluster of houses that were part of a desert art installation in 2009 (third link)
