Frankfurt (#1292)
Frankfurt architecture, from the plaza at the Hauptbahnhof. Even when I was stationed just south of Frankfurt in 1969, Frankfurt was considered to be a commercial and financial hub not only for Germany but for much of Europe; it continues to hold that status.
FYI, though often referred to as simply ‘Frankfurt’, the official name of ‘Frankfurt am Main’ (on the Main (river)) is important for distinguishing it from Frankfurt an der Oder (on the Oder river); the Oder river is the border between Germany and Poland.
(Part of a documentation of 2018 exploration/reflection on Brexit and populist movements in Europe, keyword Europe2018)
