Koblenz Pestkreuz (#0627)

Koblenz Pestkreuz (#0627)
Not exactly prominent, a landmark I happened to notice on my way back to the train station.

The Pestkreuz (Plague Cross), erected in 1669, memorialized the deadliest plague of Koblenz, from 1666-1668 (could not find estimate of deaths). Per the Wikipedia page, the cross was largely forgotten for a very long time (possibly centuries) and relegated to a back yard. In 2011 there was a civic campaign to restore it, and it was placed in this slightly more prominent location near the depot. An interesting reminder of the extent that such diseases once wiped out large portions of the population.
