Trona CA "Bonanza Borax" mural (0622)
Mural in Trona describing the history of mining in the area, with the main office building of Searles Valley Minerals in the background. See adjacent picture for detail of the mural. The Trona area started mining borax in the late 1800's, the town was created as a company town in 1913. Like all mining towns, changes in the economy has resulted in cycles of boom and bust -- the mines are still active.
