Bear, 2004

Bear, 2004
Bear was born to a feral cat that stayed around the house. All the literature suggested that he needed to stay with her until he was about 6 weeks, so we watched anxiously (there were hungry coyotes in the neighborhood) and didn't try to wean him from his mother (thus no good pictures). He got the name Bear because, as a kitten, he looked a lot like a little bear. You can see how tiny he is here just in comparison to the cat food can that we'd put out as a water dish. He's probably just a few weeks old here. (date taken is just a guess)

One of our cats is absolutely insane, and Robin's sure the reason is that she was taken from her mother too early.

I had a male cat that developed behavior problems and I suspected it was because he had been fixed too young. To control the cat population, many shelters push for neutering at 8 weeks but some vets believe they don't develop correctly when neutered that young. I think the push for early is out of a fear that people won't do it if they delay it. Luckily my vet knew that I would have it done and so agreed with delaying....
