Evergreen Coaches LIB 805 (B486 UNB) near Fiveways, Barton Mills – 6 Aug 1994 (234-18)
Saturday 6 August 1994 – Evergreen Coaches (Stanley Field Limited), Blackheath, Halesowen LIB 805 seen on the A11 east of Fiveways, Barton Mills just after taking a break at the nearby picnic area (A1065). It was now continuing towards the Norfolk coast.

It is a Van Hool Alizée bodied Volvo B10M which I believe was new to Jacksons, Altrincham in March 1985 registered B486 UNB. Jackson’s was part of the group which evolved into Shearings Holidays.

The rebuilding of the bridge over a watercourse had been completed and the normal road and new bridge were opened to traffic a few days prior to this photograph being taken. During the period of the rebuilding a temporary loop road was put in place with a temporary pontoon bridge to the north of the normal roadway. The latter is still in place but the road surface had been removed. The straight path of the A11 towards Elveden and Thetford stretches to the horizon. At the time the A11 was only single carriageway between Barton Mills and Thetford and it was to be a further 20 years before the long awaited dual carriageway was opened between the two locations (in December 2014).
