Abbeyways vehicles in Crossfield Bus Station, Hali…

11 Sep 1988 1 182
Sunday 11 September 1988 – Two Abbeyways vehicles parked in Crossfield Bus Station, Halifax. The double decker is PHG 776P, an East Lancs bodied Leyland Atlantean AN68/1R which had been new to Hyndburn Transport (Accrington) in February 1976. Behind it is JND 997N, Duple Dominant bodied Leyland Leopard which had been new to Greater Manchester PTE as their 97 in June 1975. The bus on the left a former Darlington Transport Marshall bodied Daimler Fleetline one of three new July/August 1970 numbered 37-39 (CHN 737-739H). I think this was former 37 although cannot say if it was nor if it was operated by Abbeyways. Crossfield Bus Station was set for redevelopment and had already been vacated by the West Yorkshire PTE.

22 Mar 1992 1 170
Sunday 22 March 1992 – Another new operator to serve Rochdale since deregulation was Burnley and Pendle Joint Transport which worked the former Ribble service 244 to Blackburn. Number 19 (H619 ACK) is an Alexander PS bodied Volvo B10M that was new in December 1990. At first glance the bus on the extreme right looks like it might be another Burnley and Pendle vehicle but it is actually Rossendale Transport 94 (F94 XBV). The colour schemes are very similar.

Sunday 21 March 1992 – Bee Line Buzz Company was owned by Drawlane and this Leyland Atlantean gives a fair representation of the tatty state of their fleet. XPG 189T, still wearing the livery and fleet number of London Country with over stuck fleet name and peeling lettering, was seen in Rochdale bus station operating service 17 to Manchester. The body design is Park Royal but the bodywork was built by Roe.

The buses featured large side luggage lockers but after sale to Yorkshire Traction a number of the batch were rebodied by East Lancs in 1997.
