16/17 August 2023 – The Dolomites mountain range is found in the north eastern corner of Italy in the South Tirol region close to the border with Austria. The main spoken languages in the area are Italian and German together with Ladin.

Bus services in the region are operated by contractors working for ‘sta’ – the authority which organises the transport network and has a name in the three languages südtirolmobil; alto adige mobilità; and südtirolmubiltà. Buildings and vehicles carry the three names with a partial ‘M’ logo.
Destination displays are shown in the two main languages.

The town of Dobbiaco/Toblach (Dobbiaco in the Italian language/Toblach in German) is about 13km/8 miles from the border with Austria.

This ‘sta’ liveried Mercedes-Benz Intouro, operated by Cortina Express based in Cortina Anpezzo, was seen close to the town centre when working the Lago di Braies/Pragser Wildsee service 442. (This trip inbound I believe).

The overall journey takes 28 minutes and operates hourly (increased to half hourly between mid-June and late September). Such is the popularity of this service during the peak summer months of July, August and September that it is necessary to make a reservation and pay for tickets in advance.
