Site of old bus station, Stevenage - 25 Sep 2022 (P1130362)

Sunday 25 September 2022 (1039) – The former bus station in Town Square/Danestrete in Stevenage closed in late June 2022, the site now being redeveloped as a ‘multi-purpose event space’.

This roadway was used by the buses entering the bus station. They departed on the roadway just to the right off camera.

The old bus station was created in October 1958 when Stevenage was being developed as a ‘new town’. Initially it comprised long straight drive through lanes but in later years had become a circular style layout with basic bus shelters set around the perimeter.

A new Bus Interchange opened on Sunday 26 June 2022 built on what had been the Leisure Centre long stay car park. This comprises a covered building with ten bus loading bays waiting area. Interior facilities include a food outlet, toilet facilities and security offices. Much better facilities but a little further away from the town centre shops.
