Yelloway FDK 420D at Rochdale - Summer 1969

Yelloway FDK 420D at Rochdale - Summer 1969
Posted on Ipernity on Monday 30 January 2017 - My apologies for the repeat inclusion of this photograph but it is done to mark the day 50 years ago today that I started to work at Yelloway. Coincidentally the calendars for 1967 and 2017 are the same so it was also a Monday.

The photograph was taken in the Summer of 1969 and features Yelloway FDK 420D standing beneath the prominent signboard at the coach station at Weir Street in Rochdale ready to work the 1600 motorway express (‘flyer’) service to London. Earlier in the day it would have worked the morning ‘flyer’ up from London arriving in Rochdale at 1411. Delivered in the previous Spring it was one of the first six Plaxton Panorama bodied AEC Reliances bought in 1966 and thus one of the newest coaches at the time I started. I always had a fondness for '420' as it was the coach on which I had previously experienced an exhilarating motorway ride on a day out to London aboard the early morning 'flyer' southbound returning on the late afternoon service.

Some of my Yelloway photos from the late1960s/early 1970s can be seen here:
