372/03 Premier Travel Services (Cambus Holdings) G372 REG at Barton Mills - 1 Aug 1992

372/03 Premier Travel Services (Cambus Holdings) G372 REG at Barton Mills - 1 Aug 1992
Saturday 1 August 1992 (approx. 1605) – In the Spring of 1990 Premier Travel Services added 14 Plaxton Expressliner bodied Volvo B10Ms to the fleet for National Express contracts. 372 (G372 REG) was seen here when working the 0830 National Express service 747 from Bristol to Lowestoft. The working diagram spread over a number of days didn’t take the coach into the Cambridge garage so the drivers fuelled at the Fina Station at Barton Mills. The coach could be fuelled from either side and on this occasion was being fuelled from a pump on the other side. The driver appears to have opened the fuel cap on this side to vent the tanks and assist general flow. By the time he had finished refuelling I was behind him in the payment queue. Diesel was selling for 43.9 pence per litre (happy days!) and his bill came to £119.60. So he would have taken on over 272 litres (60 gallons). In the background is a coach operated by York Brothers of Northampton which was taking a break at neighbouring AJ's Restaurant whilst operating the return run of their Saturday only holiday service between Great Yarmouth etc and Northampton. AJ's was on the eastbound side of the A11 carriageway. For the westbound service the coach initially passed by and returned to AJ's. When leaving it initially went east back to Fiveways to then got on to the westbound carriageway to continue on its way.
