Large church in small village - HFF

Old churches are interesting yes,. and although a little morbid, I find that looking around at grave stones can reveal some fascinating history of families..
Btw. I photographed a memorial in our local cemetery (Derbyshire) of a girl who in 1856 emigrated to 'Burlington Iowa' USA... a fellow photographer in Burlington picked up on my picture and actually went out and found her grave .. I am still in contact with the photographer today,.

Thanks David, this is a great story that reminds me of mine: when I was 16 years or so, I was on holiday at the Baltic Sea. At that time my side was West Germany, opposite East Germany. I threw a bottle with a message inside into the sea that was found by a boy in East Germany! We wrote each other for years and I sent him chocolate packages... Have a nice Sunday.

Ja, so kenne ich das auch von manchen südfranzösischen orten. Ein winzig kleiner ort, dafür eine riesige kirche. Und da hab ich mich gefragt, wo denn die vielen leute herkommen, die in diese kirche reinpassen würden ;-)

Danke Edna, früher waren diese Dörfer viel dichter besiedelt als heute (dieses hier z.B. hatte Mitte des 19. Jh. um die 400 Einwohner, heute nur noch 100 !!). Und da damals "in die Kirche gehen" sozusagen die einzige "Unterhaltung" war, gingen alle oft und regelmässig hin... Einen schönen 2. Advent, mit Lebkuchen und Marzipan ;-)))

Ich glaube, die leute heutzutage wandern alle in die städte ab und deshalb wird's in den städten immer voller. Furchtbar ;-)

Ich wünsche dir auch einen schönen 2. advent, Christa. Lebkuchen und marzipan hast du auch in Frankreich? :-) Ach, der LIDL (französisch ausgesprochen, da klingt es eleganter) hat alles ;-))

Deshalb habe ich auch das Gegenteil gemacht : von Paris hierher auf's Land !! Obwohl, der Trend beginnt sich umzukehren, seit ca. 2 Jahren kommen immer mehr Städter (vor allem aus Paris) und kaufen die alten Häuser auf.

Klar, wir haben "All Die" und "Lie Dell", da gibt's die ganzen Weihnachtsnaschereien wie in Deutschland, herrlich. Ausser diese kleinen Mandarin oder Clementine-Dosen, die habe ich hier leider noch NIE gesehen !!

Kann ich gut verstehen. Habe ich auch vor, wenn ich in rente bin, also irgendwo auf's land. Hoffentlich entwickelt sich der trend hier dann nicht auch wie in Frankreich, sonst bleibe ich dann doch in der stadt, weil's da dann wieder ruhiger wird ;-))

Dachte ich mir schon, das höre ich auch immer von freundinnen aus den USA (also die weihnachtssüssigkeiten aus Deutschland bei ALDI dort, LIDL ist dort noch nicht so verbreitet). Finde ich gut, dass diese discounter denn auch etwas kultur verbreiten ;-))) Schade, dass es diese mandarinen-dosen bei euch nicht gibt. Danach hatte ich allerdings in Frankreich gar nicht geschaut. Ich freue mich aber auch, wenn's mal eine französische woche bei ALDI oder LIDL gibt, obwohl man ja einfach nach Wissembourg fahren kann, dort ist dann immer französische woche! :-)

Hier in der Gegend gibt es noch einige alte Häuser zum Verkauf, die billigsten kriegt man in den Dörfern, die will keiner, da kein Grundstück dabei ist, sondern nur kleine Gärten oder Hinterhöfe.

Und in Wissembourg ist sogar immer das französische Jahr ;-))

So ein preiswertes haus wäre vielleicht was für mich, denn im fortgeschrittenen alter macht mir ein grosser garten vielleicht zuviel arbeit ;-)

Stimmt, das ist ja das gute daran! :-))

Dann schau mal hier, nur als Beispiel, da gibt es ein Gärtchen von 56 m², also mehr eine grosse Terrasse...

Friedhof an der Kirche funktioniert meistens nur auf dem Dorf. HFF, Christa!

Lovely mellow stonework and colours in this shot Christa. A pretty church with a short but quite steep flight of steps, - no wonder the handrail is needed! It may have had rich sponsors but it was doubtless built at t time when the chuch was the centre of village life so was very important.
