Der Palast von Knossos
Am Ende des 3. Jahrtausends v.
At the end of the 3rd millennium BC, smaller kingdoms developed on the island of Crete, as can be inferred from the larger palace complexes in Phaistos, Malia, Knossos, and Kato Zakros. The Palace of Knossos was built between 2100 and 1800 BC on the site of a Neolithic settlement. It was especially large (around 2 hectares!), wealthy, and magnificent. Shown in the picture is one of the most recent palaces in Knossos. I will show in the next image what is depicted in the wall painting.
Since 2025, Knossos, together with the other Minoan palaces on Crete, has been recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
