Maikäfer flieg! Maybug fly!

This nursery rhyme came to mind when I photographed this cockchafer (Melolontha melolontha) on my wife's hand and it flew off immediately afterwards. In the close-up, this harmless beetle, which has become very rare in places here in Franconia (the cockchafer shown in the picture is the first one I've seen in years!), already looks very threatening. For those who no longer know the lyrics:
Maybug, fly,
Your father is at war,
Your mother is in Pomerania,
Pomerania is burnt down!
Maybug, fly.
The origin of the song lyrics is still unclear until today. Some scientists assume that it is originated in the Thirty Years' War (17th century), others are of the opinion that it was written in the Seven Years' War (18th century). For those interested, I have attached two internet sources that deal with this question.

cammino club has replied to uwschu clubcammino club has replied to Andy Rodker clubthe name June beetle is reserved for another beetle that is much smaller called Amphimallon solstitiale but otherwise resembles the cockchafer. The cockchafer belongs to a different genus. The cockchafer belongs to the genus Melolontha. See: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amphimallon_solstitiale
Andy Rodker club has replied to cammino clubLive and learn! I have been under this misapprehension for many years!
cammino club has replied to Tanja - Loughcrew clubIch habe schon seit vielen Jahren keinen mehr gesehen.
