I recently found this flowering Turk's cap lily (Lilium martagon) in a Franconian oak mixed forest, where it is found scattered. Obviously, apart from moths, hoverflies are also attracted by the heavy, sweet scent of the flowers, supply themselves with pollen and nectar and pollinate the plant. The name is derived from the appearance of the flower, which reminds of a Turkish turban. The plant is a protected species.
The bulb of Lilium martagon contains a golden-yellow dye, which alchemists believed could cause the transformation of a substance into gold. The plant therefore also had the name "Goldwurz".
