On the Square Louise-White with view back to the Fasanenbrücke,
the Pheasant Bridge or Pont Tournant, a hydraulic swing bridge from the 19th century1 , which has been a World Heritage Site since 1988, crossing the Ill River in the historic quarter of Petite France.
Louise Weiss (1893-1983)
Louise Weiss daughter from a middle-class and protestant family. As a journalist and writer, she was head of the journal "l'Europe nouvelle" between 1920 and 1934, and the Institute for Peace Studies was founded on her initiative. She was a committed fighter for political equality of the sexes and for the struggle of the overseas peoples for their self-determination and decolonisation.
In 1979, near the end of her life, she inaugurated the first European Parliament.
