TESO (Texels Eigen Stoomboot Onderneming) operates the ferry for passengers and motor vehicles. The crossing takes about 20 minutes and there are currently two ships in service.

In 1907 a ferry company was founded to provide the island's inhabitants with a better connection to the mainland and to enable tourism to reach Texel.
From 1907 until the 60s Oudeschild was the ferry port on the east side of the island. Today Oudeschild is used almost exclusively as a fishing port and by private boats.
To shorten the crossing, a new ferry port was built in 't Horntje in the 60s.
