Cycling from Bordeaux Vineyards to the Atlantic Coast / Dune du Pilat

Cycling from Bordeaux Vineyards to the Atlantic Coast / Dune du Pilat
It is said that the Dune du Pilat is a "threatening sand wall" or even a "sand monster" that devours France! But the origin is based on the ordinary processes of nature. The river Eyre brings sand into the ocean and it remains in the shallow water areas that lie directly in front of the future dune. Wind then plays the role of the transporter carrying the sand to the shore, gradually the dune emerged and today, year after year, moves inland..

The dune is moving forward (or backward, if you prefer) by 5 m per year.

Amazing! You have little idea of how big this dune is, until you see an image like this with what looks like tiny people climbing it..!!

An excellent shot Aschi.!
