Scotland St. Cuthbert's Way

Scotland St. Cuthbert's Way
Our next stop Yetholm Youth Hostel

Yetholm is actually a twin village of Town Yetholm and Kirk Yetholm. Both villages are very unusual in Scotland as they have a number of thatched huts and houses.

The name Yetholm means "gate town", and the villages were described as frontline during the various wars between England and Scotland.
The cross-border turbulence meant that permanent settlement in Yetholm could not have begun until the end of the 19th century. However, the area had long been home to the Jetholm gypsies.

Trudy Tuinstra, , Jenny McIntyre, Annaig56 and 14 other people have particularly liked this photo
