The nave of Winchester Cathedral is the largest in Europe with a length of 168m. The original Norman nave was remodelled in Perpendicular style in the second half of the 14th century and the wooden ceilings were replaced by stone vaults. The ornate 15th century Great Screen (reredos) behind the High Altar originally had colourfully painted statues which were destroyed during the reformation. They were restored (without paint) in the 19th century and the whole Screen was thoroughly cleaned in 2018. www.winchester-cathedral.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/Brief-History-of-Great-Screen-copy.pdf The Renaissaance mortuary chests on top of the stone walls on both sides of the altar house the remains of many Saxon and Danish kings from the 7th century onwards who originally were buried in the first Winchester Cathedral. Sadly the bones got mixed up and some got lost when Cromwell's soldiers used them to smash the stained glass windows. Jh hatte ursprünglich bunt bemalte Statuen, die während der Reformation zerstört wurden. Im 19.Jh wurden sie restauriert und 2018 wurde das gesamte Retabel einer gründlichen Reinigung unterzogen. In den Renaissance-Truhen auf den Steinschranken rechts und links des Altars befinden sich die Gebeine vieler angelsächsischer und dänischer Könige ab dem 7. Jh., die ursprünglich in der ersten Kathedrale von Winchester begraben waren. Leider kamen die Gebeine durcheinander und etliche gingen verloren, weil die Soldaten von Cromwell während des Bürgerkriegs die Knochen als Wurfgeschosse benutzten, um die Bleiglasfenster einzuschlagen. 2015 begann man damit, die Truhen und Gebeine zu wissenschaftlich zu untersuchen und zu erhalten.

Mottisfont Abbey was founded as an Augustinian priory in 1201. After the dissolution of the monasteries it was turned into a country house. Since 1957 it is in the care of the National Trust .

Vicar's Close wurde zwischen 1348 bis 1430 erbaut und gilt als die älteste erhaltene "Reihenhaussiedlung" Großbritanniens. Bis heute ist sie überwiegend von Mitgliedern des Kathedralchors und kirchlichen Mitarbeitern bewohnt. The Cathedral Church of Saint Andrew is predominantly Early English in style with some later Perpendicular additions.
