Hnjótur
The late Egill Olafsson, farmer at Hnjótur in remote Patreksfjörður, accumulated quite a collection of old boats, airplanes and lots of other stuff- a typical pastime on isolated farms in the West Fjords (others had loads of old cars, built Eiffel towers from scrap metal etc...). This collection has been turned into a museum with cafè, a welcome lunch stop for tourists on their way to the bird cliffs of Látrabjarg.
(I couldn't find any information about the sculpture which from the other side shows the stylized prow of a boat with the cross on top)

The Church of San Lorenzo was built in the early 17th century on the site of an earlier church of which the romanesque campanile survives.

SC 58- Red as predominant colour
Archives this week because walks through town didn't yield enough red and I couldn't find enough stuff for a decent still life.

SSC: Bahnhof

One of many examples of brick gothic town houses in the Hanse city of Stralsund, Burmeisterhaus houses an exhibition about natural scientist Hermann K. Burmeister (1807, Stralsund- 1892, Buenos Aires) and working space for scientists at the German Oceanographic Museum which is just across the road.

Hornito
A Hornito (literally: little oven) is a small turret shaped spattering/ degassing vent that develops in effusive eruptions. Hornitos are rootless, meaning they aren't fed from deep sources but from hot lava running in tubes not far from the surface. When pressure in the tubes gets too high the lava and gases break out in such vents.

By the melting patterns in the 1st note and the volcanic glass in the 2nd you can see how hot and fluid the lava must have been.

I hate liquorice;-) In this form it's easy to avoid but with other stuff like teas/infusions, cough pastilles you always have to read the ingredients list.

Þórsmörk and Goðaland

Þórsmörk (Thor's wood) is the wooded ridge on the far side of Krossá river (in the middle background of the photo), Goðaland (Land of the Gods) is the area on the near side.
Both Þórsmörk and Goðaland have lush birch forests with flowers like orchids and cranesbill thanks to a sheltered microclimate between the glaciers of Myrdalsjökull and Eyjafjallajökull.
