Termas de Polloquere

Termas de Polloquere
Termas de Polloquere are sulphurous hot springs (~60°C) in Salar de Surire, a 144km² salt flat at 4250 m in the far north of Chile. The high mountain in the background of the main photo is Cerro Lliscaya (5580m) which demarcates the border to Bolivia.

Salar de Surire is protected as a monumento natural (lowest level of protection because of lithium mining) and is also an important Ramsar wetland. Together with Lauca National Park and Reserva Nacional Las Vicunas it is part of UNESCO's Lauca Biosphere Reserve.

The volcanoes in the note are Arintica (5590m) and Puquintica (5760m), the latter has the Bolivian border running through it.
