Røros town and copper mines were founded in 1646 and operated until 1977, in 1980 the mines and town were declared UNESCO World Heritage. On the right is smelthytta (copper smelter) which today houses the museum, left are the slag heaps.

Herzlichen Dank, Edna! Das Städtchen selber ist mit seinen Holzhäusern klein und gemütlich. Es gibt Ende Februar einen berühmten Wintermarkt und ebenfalls im Februar ein ebenso berühmtes Hundeschlittenrennen.

Thank you so much, Amelia! I went there without a guide and you really don't need one:-) The railway station is just a few minutes from the town centre, the town is very small and the mine buildings are at the end of the main street:-)

Schönen Dank, Christel! Allerdings und man hat sich viele Bergleute wegen ihrer Expertise aus dem Ausland geholt. Dazu das extreme Kontinentalklima- bis plus 30 im Sommer und bis minus 40 im Winter (gestern hatten sie dort -25).
