Der Zollerngraben ist gerade brav. 2x habe ich den live gespürt, da hat sich das Haus einmal gehoben und wieder gesetzt;-)

Ein Küchenhocker ließ mich das Grollen auch stark spüren (in den 70er Jahren).

Das in den 70ern ist irgendwie an mir vorbei, aber die zwei späteren waren deutlich.

In the grand scheme of things, 2 cm a year doesn't sound like much, but it's actually quite a lot when you realise the enormous size of the tectonic plates..!!

Two fantastic images Gudrun............and just a tiny bit scary! In the main image I love the contrast between the snow capped, peaceful looking peaks and the carnage of the broken up foreground.............which is forcefully emphasised by the image in the PiP..!!

Thanks very much, Keith! The peaceful peak was once created in a volcanc eruption:-) The cracks will move further apart over time or maybe will be filled with lava one day....

In the Pacific NW I'd also want to hide under my bed thinking of plate tectonics....Where I am in SW Germany we do have the odd earthquake but nothing too bad.

No, I don't. We get very rare earthquakes (years and years apart), and so far in my life not very strong. They warn us of a big one, but I will just have to take it when it comes. I personally think (with no scientific basis whatsoever) that we will more likely have volcanic activity if our plates move and that that activity will in a way dissipate earthquake action. See how brilliant I am? *smile*

I hope you are right:-) In the Kamchatka quake recently it was the other way round, the quake activated several volcanoes- but they were primed to go, the quake was only the last straw.

You aren't helping... hahaha.

Mt.Hood is one of the most closely monitored volcanoes, so the likelihood of surprises is near zero;-)
