Røros in winter

Oh, oh, die haben dort noch ein wenig mehr Schnee als wir hier.
So etwa habe ich unsere früheren Winter hier im Allgäu auch in Erinnerung. Laaang, lang ist's her....

Herzlichen Dank, Udo! Tja, auch dort sind die Winter nicht mehr das... Die Damen, die im Café mit am Tisch sassen, meinten, die WInter seien viel wärmer geworden, früher gab's dort mitunter -50 Grad, heute sind's -30;-) Und an dem Tag waren es sogar nur lauschige -5 (aber ein kalter Wind).

Vielen Dank, Ulrich! Dort ist der Winter noch ein richtiger Winter, vor dem Supermarkt waren die Kickschlitten geparkt;-)

It all looks so cold and bleak, Gudrun, but our outside temperature here is -8C at the moment. We have been relatively lucky in Shropshire compared to many parts of the UK. Of course, as usual, the country has ground to a standstill. The councils don't have the equipment to deal with a lot of snow, and drivers are often ill prepared for the conditions.

Thank you so much, Amelia! When winter conditions are a rare event councils and people never know how to cope... I noticed how well organized snow removal in Norway is. If they have a river or the sea, the masses of snow are just shoved in. Here in Germany the ploughs leave it all on the edge of the road so that nobody can get from street to pavement and parking cars cannot get out;-)

That's real winter !!

Merci beaucoup, Jocelyne! This is a mining town in the mountains near the Swedish border. In the past they famously had -50°C but not any longer....

So ein tiefliegender Fluss im Ort kann sehr nützlich sein, offensichtlich werden die Schneemassen in das Flussbett geschoben. Praktisch auch, wenn die Schneeschmelze eintritt.
Ich glaube, wir sind auf einer unserer Reisen auch durch Røros gekommen. Im Winter sieht alles anders aus als im Sommer ;-).

Herzlichen Dank, Uli! Am Meer und an Flüssen schieben die den Schnee immer ins Wasser. Ansonsten gibt es offenbar feste Stellen, wo sie den Schnee aufhäufen, das ist alles gut organisiert. Bei uns bringen sie's ja fertig, parkende Autos zuzuschippen, oder du kommst als Fußgänger nicht mehr über die Strasse.
Dort in Røros fand übrigens gerade der berühmte Femundsløpet statt, angeblich das härteste Schlittenhunderennen in Europa. Gesehen haben wir nichts, es war auf der anderen Seite des Tals, aber die Kommentatoren hat man überall gehört;-)

WOW, what an amount of snow. We had a lot in the French Alps in January and even if there they are pretty well organized, they had much problems because the snow felt withing a few hours. They also put it into the river down the valley, but with the arrival or departure of tourists, the traffic on the roads was very difficult !!! I don't want to speak about snow in Paris or in the South of France, this was a mess !!!

Thanks a lot, Marie-claire! Yes, in the Alps they are also well organized. It's exceptional that so much comes down in a very short time as did this year. Lol, it's the same in some parts of Germany that usually don't have much snow...one snowflake and everything breaks down;-)
Norwegians are quite relaxed about the weather, if it gets extremely bad nobody expects them to turn up to work!

I feel embarrassed when I think that schools were closed for two days in Rome for 10 cm of snow only!!! Of course Norway is used to coping with snow, considering its geographical position...but I do think they are better organized in many other ways, Gudrun!

Thank you so much, Adele! Many places in Germany are also not used to "weather", people in the Alps manage, though, as do the Scandinavians. At the North Cape there was ice rain- German passengers were scared, the bus drivers just mounted snow chains and kept on driving;-)
