Chile is such a long country it's near impossible to see the sights in one go. I visited the South (Patagonia) 3 times, twice the north. But as these visits were always combined with Argentina or Bolivia I still haven't seen all I'd like to see;-)

You must come back one day and see the Atacama and the Altiplano!

The saltpeter was not just for agriculture, but also for war munitions.

In the same part of the world, you have the massive Lithium mines, which are very very busy now to keep us stocked with phone and computer batteries.

Great image, Chile is fascinating; we have had the awesome experience of visiting that country.

Lithium mining is having a massive environmental impact, it uses (and pollutes) too much water in an area that has very little and it destroys the livelihood of indigenous people. But that's nothing new, it has been so ever since the Conquista:-(
