A couple of graphs showing the vaccination rollout progressing in the USA, from 13th December to 22nd June 2021. Interesting spread of ages and timing of fully vaccinated. I would hope that the fully vaxx'd percentage for the over 65s can be increased from 75%, as this age group is more vulnerable to infection and Covid-19's bad affects. Stupendous jump in cases, basically almost 2,000 extra, in one day. . . [This was the predicted result ... explained as something to do with getting crammed into pubs & living rooms to drink & watch a certain football match - good example of covidiots ! sorry, I have zero sympathy for the football supporters, maybe some for their family members, as these cases WERE avoidable]. Scottish covid cases. The case rate to the left shows the huge peak at the end of June from the Third Wave, when compared to those for the first and second waves. The "by age group / sex" for the latest week version to the right shows a significant bulge in the young males, and almost no cases in the groups that will have had two jags. Conclusion - the social contact whilst watching the "Euro" football matches, again, has pushed up cases of the 'Indian' variant over what would have been expected. Comparing the vaccine take-up for both doses by age cohorts, from Jan 2021 to June 2021. Something in excess of 85% of adults need to be double-jabbed to achieve approaching herd immunity. Bear in mind that the younger age groups have had less time to get vaccinated, although the first dose uptick from mid-June - as appointments etc were opened up to all adults - is very noticeable. Graph for callers to the UK's emergency system [999 calls] reporting covid-19 type symptoms, these may or may not be actual cases, to be counted into that category, a +ve PCR test result would be needed. Despite the rapid and large increases in new cases, the number of daily deaths has remained low. It is probable that the vaccination rollout (starting with the most vulnerable) has damaged, if not broken, the link between infections and deaths [now about 1 death per 1000 cases and was 1 in 60 at the peak of the second wave]. Steady progress with first doses, but a slight tapering off with the second jabs. This will be the efforts to get at least some immunity into as many young adults as possible, as a race against the spread of the 'Indian' variant as the Third Wave develops.
