yam[25] - Spitfire Mk1A {1 of 2}
This is a replica Supermarine Spitfire Mk1A, dating form the Battle of Britain in WW2.
It represents the plane flown by Squadron Leader Darley, OC 609 Squadron.
yorkshireairmuseum.org/supermarine-spitfire-i
609 claimed 85 enemy aircraft shot down during the BoB, and were the first squadron credited with 100 victories.
Later Sqdn Ldr Darley received the D.S.O. and he dedicated the medal to the pilots and ground crews without whom the service would not have been achieved.
