My late father spent part of WW2 as an aircraft electrician, out in the Far East and these planes were used to evacuate emaciated POWs that had been enslaved [there is no other word for their treatment by the Japanese] from Burma. He didn't talk about it that much, but it had definitely affected his outlook ...
