To the known & unknown Roman military units that served at Vindolanda, between AD 85 and 400.

How strange to have a memorial to Roman Military units of so long ago! Where is Vindolanda - is it somewhere in the UK and that's the Roman name for a town?

Hi Jenny.
Vindolanda - and it is the Roman name - is just south of Hadrian's Wall, on the line of the Roman road known as the Stanegate. The first fort site actually pre-dates the Wall by about 40 years ...

It is in SW Northumberland, near to Bardon Mill, a village just to the east of Haltwhistle.
