Sunset over the Solent this evening was one of the best I've seen in this country. So many colours! Light levels were rather low which made for a slightly noisy shot.
After The Storm

I headed out after the worst of yesterday's violent storm had passed and was greeted with water where there is normally grass. The gulls were evidently having a good time!
Winter Woodland

South Downs in winter. A rather wet and soggy landscape today with regular heavy downpours. I like the shadows cast by the trees against a low winter sun.

Incredible banks of fog hanging over the Solent, punctured by rays of sunlight. I found it very ethereal.

Southsea sea defence works have temporarily placed large piles of rock that limit the sea view. Rather muted colours with this photo taken on a cloudy afternoon.

Good to be back uploading photos again. This shot of the cathedral interior has added HDR punch which really helps the detail stand out. Best viewed large and full screen.
Swallowtail Butterfly

This is a swallowtail butterfly (Papilionidae). The problem is, it is only found in Norfolk in the UK and I took this on the south coast! It's a beautiful specimen and was quite large.

Does anyone know what type of butterfly this is? It has a more pronounced blue when the wings are open. Taken in the garden with a Macro lens

Mein Schiff 3 recently departing from Portsmouth was the largest vessel to use the port. Definitely best viewed in full screen.

Conifer Woodland

Whereas the deciduous woodland was full of birdsong and life, it was very different under these coniferous trees with little growing on the woodland floor. I've given the photo a bit of a sepia look to highlight the issue. I think it has a rather sombre look.
