For a population of only around 1500 Kingussie has an impressive 1893 vintage stone-built station on the Highland line between Perth and Inverness. Facilities include a pre-1915 Edwardian post box (notice the ER VII) although whether these days it is regularly emptied I'm not sure and a Victorian water fountain although that looks defunct - the vandals took the handles!. Canyon trekking in the Tertiary limestone mountains of NE Oman about 2 hours drive (on a splendid tarmac motorway) south of Muscat. We were the only people in the wadi on this day but it is very popular and does get busier!

The huge mountain of scrap at Cashmore's scrap yard on East Dock Road in Newport dwarfs British Railways 3MT 2-6-2 tank 82031 waiting its turn to die. Bundles of boiler tubes are neatly stacked but the cylinders & steam chests from unknown engines litter the pile behind. This was my only visit to Cashmores and all the steam had gone by year's end. A twist in the tale is that, although all of this class of locomotive were scrapped, today a group of enthusiasts are actually building a replica of a Class 3MT tank from scratch. 82045 is progressing well - see www.82045.org.uk/news/82045_news-feb26.html HFF to everyone. The yellow of Norðurgarður (North Mole Head) Lighthouse stands out in the evening sunlight at the entrance to Reykjavik harbour. The mist & cloud is forming in the distance shrouding the mountains northeast of the city.
