HWW Leicester East Midlands 16th March 2026

The Guildhall is a timber framed building, with the earliest part dating from c. 1390. It once acted as the town hall for the city until the current one was commissioned in 1876. It is reputed that William Shakespeare appeared here in the late 16th century. Part of the Shakespeare legend is that Shakespeare first came across the local tale of King Leir whilst appearing at the Guildhall and this inspired him to write his own play King Lear. The wall of St Martin's Leicester Cathedral is on the right. HWW to everyone. Have a great day.

HBM Crewe Cheshire 20th September 2010

Some years ago now en route back to Llandudno from Leicester on a Monday morning I took the opportunity, while waiting for the 09.49 train to Bangor, to capture this EWS Class 67 diesel 67022 light engine in bay platform 8 under the impressive roof at the south end of Crewe station. The rather straight-backed benches on the right don't look so comfortable. HBM to everyone. Enjoy the start of the new week.

Al Hajar Muscat Oman 3rd December 2011

The eastern Al Hajar mountains are lower relief than to the west where they reach 3000m but there are still some impressive locations. This view was taken from the Muscat-Sur highway 17 on our return from Wadi Shab. I believe the dipping rocks in the foreground are Permo-Triassic sandstones while the higher distant mountains are Pre-Cambrian to Paleozoic. The location is on the northern flank of the large Late Eocene Sahih Atat anticline which is linked to major thrusting as the Arabian plate moved northwards relative to the Eurasian plate. Best appreciated large.

HWW Keighley West Yorkshire 26th December 2022

Two young lads walk along a fine cobbled road by the classic sandstone wall. And oh yes, just by coincidence, in the background Stanier Black 5 4-6-0 45212 is running round its train in Keighley station prior to working the 14.25 to Oxenhope Mince Pie Special... HWW to everyone. Have a great day.
