Rudyard Lake

Cumberland Cottage

On a perfect late winter/early spring day this is Cumberland Cottage in a remote spot up the Cumberland Brook in Wildboarclough, Cheshire. The building has survived the retreat of farming from the uplands as it has been acquired by the Scouts as a camping base.

Although this may seem to be a historic image this branch of the Daba-Guyaozi Coal Railway was only completed in 2005. A QJ class locomotive hauls a long train of empties through the desert from Guyaozi to the new coal mine at Yangchangwan in Ningxia Province, China.

Chestergate is steadily becoming ruined by unsympathetic shop fronts. One of the best remaining is Jones Jewellers.
The Cheshire Gap
| |
|
At the lower end of Mill Street in Macclesfield you start to find shops that are not the usual bland national chains. One great joy is the Cheshire Gap delicatessen that has a wide range of goodies to tempt the palate. It also operates a small cafe area so that you can taste the food straight away if you want.
