Bianca Bianchi by Bühler
Bianca Bianchi, born Bertha Schwarz (1855-1947); German soprano.
Both her father and mother were actors. At the age of 7 she already performed children’s roles. She started her singing career at the “Hoftheater von Karlsruhe” as a choir singer. After having continued her studies with Pauline Viardot-Garcia in Paris, she made her debut in 1873 at Karlsruhe as Barbarina in Mozart’s “Le nozze di Figaro”. From the on she was engaged at the “Stadttheater von Hamburg” (1873/76),the “Hoftheater von Karlsruhe” (1877/80), the “Wiener Hofoper” (1880/87), the “Hofoper von München” (1887/89), the “Hofoper von Budapest” (1889/95), the “Hofoper von München” again (1895/98) and finally again at the “Stadttheater von Hamburg (1898/1901). In 1874 she made her London debut and in the following years she continued with guest appearances in London, St. Petersburg, Moscow, Milan, Basel and Prague. After her retirement from the stage she worked as a vocal teacher at Münich (1902/25) and from 1925 on at Salzburg.
