Louis Henri Obin by Petit
Louis Henri Obin (1820-1895); French bass. In 1844 he made his debut as Elmiro in Rossini’s “Otello” at the Grand-Opéra Paris, where he was engaged for nearly 25 years. He sang in many premieres. The most known are:as Bocchoris in Auber’s “L’enfant prodigue” (1850), as Nicéphore in Halevy's "Le juif errant" (1852), as Jean Procida in Verdi's "Les vêpres siciliennes" (1855); as the high priest of Brahma in Meyerbeer's "L 'Africaine" (1865) and as Philippe II in Verdi's "Don Carlos" (1867).
He retired from the stage in 1869 and worked as a singing teacher at the “Conservatoire National” in Paris; one of his pupils was the tenor Albert Saléza.
