Chi-Rho

Chi-Rho
These are the first two letters of XPIΣTOΣ which is Ancient Greek for Christ and represents the arrival of Christianity throughout the Roman Empire. This stone is from the Nymphaeum and was probably inscribed by early Christians to show that the new religion was taking over from the pagan gods and spirits.
Chedworth Roman Villa, Gloucestershire, England.
