I qwanted the expression instead of googling it, but the results are quite equivalent! And socially edifying. Violence responds to violence... In this case, if the kangaroos go postal, there are black eyes to be feared ;-))

Well, my guess about the kangaroos is...either it's a mailbox for mail exclusively to Australia or they want to indicate that they deliver mail as fast as a hopping kangaroo would ;-)) It may be the latter, but are hopping kangaroos really faster than cars?! ;-))

The kangaroo mail is a private mail service whereas the yellow mailbox belongs to the regular German postal services.

Die Tage des gelben Briefkastens sind sicher schon gezählt. Die Deutsche Post will ja das unprofitable Briefgeschaft abstoßen. Dann wird die Post von Dingskirchen nach Posemuckel zukünftig in Melbourne sortiert.

Dem ist nichts mehr hinzuzufügen, Reinhard. Genau so wird es kommen... ;-)
