That is quite frightening Peter, and had the roads been busier this could have caused a nasty accident! The quick reactions of the driver avoided tha scenario, but very well documented. It makes you wonder how things like this happen.

They happen for two reasons, either somebody is careless and enters the motorway on the wrong slip road, or they make a deliberate attempt to flout the law.

This is frightening. Just this morning I have read in the paper that there are two types of drivers that are more likely thatn others to cause such a situation:
a) young drivers who don't care much about rules and - sometimes under the influence of alcohol and/or other drugs - reverse and want to drive back to an exit they have missed
b) quite old drivers who really aren't capable anymore ...
It's a rare foto and I'm glad that this time nothing serious happened.

You have identified these as type (a), And certainly type (b) exists in great numbers, and not always so old either.. and there is also a type (c), those who make a genuine mistake, sometimes mislead by the road layout...
